Prince George council to consider support for veterinary school at UNBC
PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George council is getting set to weigh in on the lack of veterinarians in the region.
In a report coming to council at Monday’s (Feb. 6) meeting, the Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs noted correspondence between the province and a pair of regional districts on looking into starting a new veterinary medicine program at UNBC.
The Prince George area is experiencing an acute shortage of professionals providing medical care for animals, especially outside of normal business hours.
The committee says establishing a veterinarian school at UNBC would not address short-term veterinarian shortages but might have an impact in the longer term.
