Northern FIRE connects academic experts and community leaders to tackle major issues facing BC’s most vulnerable
PRINCE GEORGE- Gathered within the House of Ancestors today, were some of the brightest and most passionate minds researching the intersection of Housing, Transportation, Poverty, and Gendered Violence, and how they all factor together to impact community wellness in Northern BC.
Among the presenters today, UNBC Dean of Health & Human Sciences, DR. Rebecca Schiff, who’se spent the better part of two decades dedicated to collecting first hand experiences and data on homelessness in remote and rural canada… A quest that’s taken her all the way from Happy Valley-Goose Bay in Labrador, through Thunder Bay and Northern Ontario, and ultimately to the extreme northern reaches of British Columbia.
As event co-organizers Dr. Indrani Margolin & Dr. Jacqueline Holler explained: the issues facing our communities most vulnerable have no one size fits all solution, but by connecting all the dots,of community leaders, academic experts, and those with lived experiences, their hope is the next steps will be ones taken in unison, by all the different players who have been trying to help.
