PRINCE GEORGE– It was a special moment for Cariboo Cougar Carter Hesselgrave when he officially committed to the Prince George Spruce Kings.

“Whenever I came to play here back in minor hockey, we would always either come to a Prince George Cougars or Prince George Spruce Kings game almost every weekend. It was awesome. I looked up to those guys and now just being in their shoes is awesome.” – Carter Hesselgrave, committed to Spruce Kings for 2023-24 season

Hesselgrave is no stranger to the team and has made him accustomed to the organization through practices and games going all the way back to last year.

“I’ve been practicing with them for a year now, so since last year. And honestly, ever since I started practicing with them, I love that group. They’re a great group of guys, great coaching staff. I love their locker room. Honestly, no complaints at all. I think it was a pretty easy decision when I got offered to commit with them”

Carter treasures those practices with the team. The 17-year-old says playing with the older and more experienced guys has done wonders for his game.

“I think it starts with their practice plans, like how competitiveness makes it so much fun. Honestly, when you’re battling like you’re in a game, I think it translates pretty easily to the actual game.”

And for the Spruce Kings Hesselgrave is the type of player they’re looking for in their organization with Head Coach Alex Evin excited to have Carter as he continues to develop.

“He’s a northern boy. He’s a really good kid and a really hard worker. I think he’s the right type of person for our locker room in the future. Every time he’s up with us, he gives us his best effort. We’re happy to have him join us in the future.” – Alex Evin, Head Coach, Prince George Spruce Kings

Hesselgrave has played 7 games this year as an AP for the Spruce Kings but will look to be a regular in the lineup next year
