Jobless numbers continue to climb in Prince George

OTTAWA- The unemployment rate in Prince George climbed to 6.6 per cent last month from 5.9 per cent in January, and 3.2 per cent in February of 2022.

The increase was due to fewer people working and more looking for work. 3,500 people were unemployed in Prince George compared to 1,800 this time last year. A total of 49,800 people were employed in February compared to 54,200 this time last year.

B.C.’s overall unemployment rate was at 5.1 per cent last month , compared to 4.4 per cent in January.

The national jobless rate held steady at a near-record low of five per cent. The Canadian economy added 22,000 jobs last month, far fewer than the 150,000 jobs created in January.
