PRINCE GEORGE– Like most energetic kids Gage Hull was put in gymnastics at a young age. His parents noticed early on that he was a pretty active kid. Fast forward to today and Gage is set to make history, being the first-ever male gymnast sent to the Western Canadian Championships from the Prince George Gymnastics Club. An accomplishment the 17-year-old is still trying to process.

“I’m the first boy from here to go to Westerns, so that’s kind of crazy. It’s the first year they’re letting my category go, and it’s just weird that I get to go and do it. It’s something I never really thought about.” – Gage Hull, First-ever male gymnast sent to Westerns from Prince George Gymnastics Club

One person who helped Gage get to the level he’s at is his Coach Storm Connor-Garcia. She took over the boy’s competitive program 3 and half years ago. When she first started coaching Gage, she saw potential in his athleticism, with the goal of building up his technique.

“When I first got him, he didn’t have a lot of skill base. He was very scared of skills. We’ve been working a lot about that and confidence, at competitions and things like that. He’s generally a very clean, put-together athlete, so that was pretty easy to teach him just the skills.” – Storm Connor-Garcia, Coach, Prince George Gymnastics Club

Now the hope is Gage inspires other young boys wanting to get into gymnastics to one day be like him.

“It definitely boosts our boy’s program. I’m hoping that we’ll get a lot more interest to develop our programs because it’s still quite small. Hopefully, this will boost the programs and have more interest for boys to want to join.” – Storm Connor-Garcia, Coach, Prince George Gymnastics Club

The competition is set to take place April 27th-29th and while performing at the Western Championships might seem daunting. For Gage he’s training like it’s any other day, hoping to do his best.

“Training hard. Trying my best. Really just try not to think about it and not stress about it. It’s just another competition.” – Gage Hull
