MACKENZIE – Despite most places in British Columbia having trouble finding enough family doctors, Mackenzie is seeing some success.

“We know health care’s a major issue right across the province in the country, but Mackenzie does have some things to celebrate, we do have a full complement of doctors in this community,” said Mayor Joan Atkinson.

According to Mayor Joan Atkinson the District of Mackenzie has upwards of eight family physicians, a number worth celebrating considering the challenges many Northern BC communities face.

MLAs and the Mayor credit the job-sharing arrangement between the doctors as to why the rural community is having success.

Dr Joshua Greggain, Doctors of BC President said he is proud of those on the ground the team environment they have created at the Mackenzie Health Centre. Dr. Greggain added they need to share the recipe for the success for the rest of the province so others can replicate that success.

In September, a survey from the Angus Reid Institute found nearly a million BC residents do not have a family doctor.
