Northern Promise helps low-income students pursue post-secondary education
PRINCE GEORGE — Post secondary education. It’s an opportunity to provide higher learning, but it isn’t cheap, with classes costing thousands per semester. The Northern Promise has been established to help low-income families access funds for post-secondary learning.
The Canada Learning Bond is money that the government of Canada adds to a registered education savings plan for children from low-income families and will help to pay the costs of a child’s full or part time studies after high school at apprenticeship programs, trade school, colleges and universities.
Only 33% of eligible young people in northern BC are receiving the Canada Learning Bond compared to the national average of 43.81%, and the impacts of getting post-secondary education goes much farther than just job numbers.
