Cougars coach Lamb nominated for WHL Coach of the year
PRINCE GEORGE– It’s been a whirlwind season for the Prince George Cougars. however when it was all said and done the team finished with a 37-24-6-1 record. Good for the fifth-best regular season in the Cougars’ 29 years as a franchise. A big part of that success was Head Coach Mark Lamb who was named BC Division Coach of the Year and is now a Finalist for Dunc McCallum WHL Coach of the Year.
The 2022-23 season has been Lamb’s most successful in his five seasons with the Cougars. Locking up the 4th spot in the Western Conference and clinching home ice for the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Sporting the league’s second-best power play unit converting at 27.7%.He also saw multiple player milestones like Chase Wheatcroft reaching 100 points and defenseman Hudson Thornton breaking the scoring record for a Cougars D-Man.
But there is a strategy for coaching as nothing is ever the same throughout the WHL Season. Lamb also had to manage injuries, sicknesses, and roster changes throughout the year.
