Fundraiser for Destiny brings in lots of support for recovery

PRINCE GEORGE — The friends and family of 21 year old Destiny gathered on Saturday to help fundraise for Destiny’s recovery after a tragic experience in December. Ruby Baptiste, is Destiny’s grandmother and tells us her story.

“An unfortunate event led up to her being found on somebody’s doorstep, frozen. 30 minutes more and we would have lost our Destiny. So she got major frostbite, hypothermia and fast forward to today. She’s had two leg amputations, a finger amputation and skin grafts.” – Ruby Baptiste

Despite the odds, Destiny made it through and her grandmother couldn’t be more proud of her and how far she has come. Destiny is still currently in the hospital and wants to return home as soon as possible, sparking the idea for the fundraiser.

So Destiny asked me, ‘Can you do some fundraising because I want to come home soon’ and they’re going to come and inspect our home and we need to make her bathroom accessible. So something we take for granted, like having a shower, is now so different for her. – Ruby Baptiste

A silent auction was held, and people could buy tickets and bid on 50 prizes. Food and goodies were also available as well hair braiding.

There is a Gofundme page currently set up for Destiny and you can find the link here.
