Evacuation order & alerts issued for Teare Creek fire outside McBride

MCBRIDE — Update (10:45 a.m.): The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George says that evacuation orders and alerts put in place last night are still in effect

This as the BC Wildfire Service says the Teare Creek wildfire is still 600 hectares in size. Four Initial Attack Crews, one Unit Crew, one Officer and four helicopters are responding to this incident. Winds on site this morning are calm from the Northwest. Crews are working the East flank with support from helicopters. Last night crews successfully secured the south flank between the fire and Highway 16 with ignition operations. Structure protection assessments occurred last night and are continuing today. Highway 16 is open through McBride; please drive to conditions as visibility may be impacted by smoke, please check DriveBC for more information.

The following areas are included in the evacuation order:

  • All properties north of McBride Highway 16 E from Laing Road west to the Village of McBride boundary, including Koeneman Road and Mountain View Road.
  • All properties along Mountain View Road north of the Fraser River
  • All properties north of McBride Highway 16 W and Museum Road from Village of McBride boundary west to Dore River including Shovar Road, Museum Road and Red Tail Road

The RDFFG says you must leave the area immediately. Citizens must remain away from the evacuation order area as conditions may change unexpectedly and first responders will will not be able to assist those in the evacuation order.

The evacuation alert has been issued is in effect for an area that extends approximately five kilometres from the boundary of the Village of McBride as show on the attached map.

The RDFFG says conditions may unexpectedly change and make it necessary for it to require immediate evacuation to ensure the personal safety of residents and first line responders.

You are asked to prepare yourself in the event that an evacuation is required. You are also asked to:

  • Gather important papers and move valuables to alternate locations
  • Make arrangements for pets to be moved to a safe location
  • If you have livestock or hobby farm animals begin making arrangements for them to go to a safe alternative location
  • Prepare a 72-hour personal emergency kit.

Earlier (1:01 p.m.): The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George has activated its Emergency Operations Centre and has issued an evacuation order and alert as a result of a wildland interface fire in the Teare Creek area, approximately four kilometres east of McBride.

The evacuation order is for two (2) properties on Laing Road. The evacuation alert is for eight (8) properties in the Teare Creek area. The evacuation order and alert areas are shown on the attached map.

Those in the evacuation order area must leave the area immediately. A reception centre has been set up at Robson Valley Community Centre in McBride. Those in the alert area should take the following steps:

  • Secure alternate accommodations (friends and family)
  • Arrange a place to meet family or co-workers
  • Make sure your vehicle is fueled up
  • Wear and pack season appropriate clothing
  • Take purse, cash & credit cards
  • Make travel arrangements
  • Take medications, eye glasses, documents, photos & ID
  • Bring blankets, sleeping bags, books & games
  • Make arrangements for pets and take leashes, crates, pet food
  • Collect photos and mementos that can’t be replaced
