BC Hydro to begin looking for new sources of electricity
VICTORIA — BC Hydro is moving forward with a call for new sources of renewable, emission-free electricity as the province is going to need enough new power to run 270,000 homes as early as 2028.
Premier David Eby said in a press conference that the need to switch to clean power to fight climate change has never felt more urgent and the call to find new energy sources is expected to launch in the spring of 2024.
To guarantee the affordable power for this transition, Eby said that the provincial government is working in partnership with First Nations and BC Hydro to generate more of the clean electricity that British Columbia needs. Electricity demand is expected to increase by 15 percent between now and 2030.0 homes as early as 2028.
