PRINCE GEORGE – Behind the CN Centre, a team from Statistics Canada is surveying locals to promote the health and wellness of Canadians. Prince George is one of the many stops in the two-year health study.

A few weeks ago, trailers and portable buildings were placed near the outdoor ice oval to collect health data from residents that will be part of a national survey known as the Canadian Health Measures Survey.

The survey is voluntary, and Statistics Canada randomly picks participants.

The survey team conducts the survey every two years, and they randomly chose Prince George.

“ The type of health data that we’re collecting are things like physical measures such as height and weight and waist circumference. We also have an activity component where respondents are asked to wear an activity monitor for a period of time.

Within the two-year cycle, 16 communities become part of the health data collection.

The survey aims to gather information that will help improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses and promote the health and wellness of Canadians. Stats Can will publish the data in the year following the collection online.
