Pig rescued from rest stop near Hixon

PRINCE GEORGE — As travellers were driving by a rest stop near Hixon, they noticed an unusual guest that had it taken up roots there. A domestic pig.

Petunia was certainly “conspiguous” and had been noticed by motorists, and others in the area. Kerri Hegel of PG Tickled Pig Rescue got the call to see if she could help.

“Every time a car would pull in, she would like side eye them and then start walking towards them. So she’d probably been there getting food from people for quite some time.” – Kerri Hegel

After trying to find her original home and owner, Kerri came up empty and Petunia made the trip to Prince George.

It isn’t known how Petunia exactly ended up at the rest stop, but Hegel thinks that Petunia may have been dumped there, left to fend for herself and she does have a number of health issues.

Petunia has adjusted to her new home and seems to be getting along well with her other compadres.

Petunia is separate from the other pigs for now as she still needs to get dewormed by the vet, but once that happens, she’ll be running hog wild with her new friends very soon.
