PRINCE GEORGE – The Big Creek Wildfire north of Fort St. James had officials issue an evacuation order with the Takla First Nation area early Friday evening. The warmer temperature expected over the next few days has fire crews preparing for more fire activity.

Last Friday night, authorities issued evacuation orders to thirty-two properties within the Takla First Nation. According to fire officials, the Big Creek Wildfire is out-of-control and growing, threatening safety in the area. The Big Creek Fire is more than 200 kilometres northeast of Prince George.

BC Wildfires recommended to Takla First Nation, BC Parks and the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako to issue some evacuation alerts and orders as the fire danger had threatened the area.

Southeast of the Big Creek Fire is the Nation River wildfire which is over 10 thousand hectares in size, and its plumes of smoke can be seen from the community of Mackenzie.

Over the next few days, the high temperatures are expected to hover are 30.

On Canada Day, The BC Wildfire Service implemented an Area Restriction Order for the vicinity of the Nation River wildfire, located approximately 28 km west of Mackenzie.
