NORTHERN BC- Days of drought conditions and lightning strikes have sparked fires across the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako . Every corner of the region is dealing with dangerous conditions that continue to fuel fires and stretch resources thin.

An Evacuation Order has been issued for the Lucas Lake Wildfire and an alert has been issued for the Nechako Southeast Area Wildfire.

Expansions for the the Parrot Lookout Wildfire Evacuation Alert and Evacuation Order areas have also been issued. For updates go to the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako or BC Wildfire Service websites.

Over the past 72 hours, the BC Wildfire Service says 35 new wildfires have started in what they’re calling, the “VanJam” – Vanderhoof and Fort St. James fire zone.

“At least 59 fires are actively burning within this zone, with new wildfires being detected daily. Road conditions and smoke have made monitoring detection difficult,” they say.

They add “current weather is leading to aggressive and substantial fire growth. Personal safety is the number one priority. Aggressive fire behaviour is expected to continue through the next several days.”
