PRINCE GEORGE – A trip of a lifetime for one local Rocky Mountain Ranger who recently returned from overseas, where he helped train Ukraine soldiers in their war against Russia.

Resident Corporal Eamon McArthur has recently returned to Canada after spending most of the year training Ukrainian soldiers to engage in the ongoing conflict with Russia in the united kingdom.

“ Teaching Ukrainians some basic soldiering skills and then building up into how to deal with conflicts in built-up areas such as cities or towns.”

He was part of a mission called Operation UNIFIER, a Canadian Armed Forces program to support the Ukrainians through military training.

Corporal McArthur says his family’s support made his adventure a reality.

During those months of training, the Canadian Mission had the opportunity to train several Ukrainians, some of whom had never held a rifle.

“ Some guys had some previous training. But more often than not, these guys were just average citizens trying to serve their country.”

Corpal McArthur doesn’t have plans to return overseas soon, but he is honoured to be the only person chosen from northern BC to help train Ukrainian troops.
