Construction Impact

Third avenue construction impacting local businesses

PRINCE GEORGE – Watermain construction on Third Avenue got underway yesterday and it’s very evident that the impacts have already been causing issues at local businesses. Outdoor seating at Ristretto Coffee House is usually a hot commodity during the summer, but now, because of this construction, they’re unable to put the extra table and chairs in front of their shop.

“Customers like to come with their pets and sometimes they like to sit outside as well with the pets. So, those customers are actually not coming in or if they are coming in, they’re not trying to sit down and have a good time out there.”

– Jasneil Dhillon, Owner of Ristretto Coffee House

One of the downfalls that come with this project is that the water will be shut off to all of the businesses in the surrounding area for two days over the two-month construction. And, when your business relies on water, it makes it difficult to stay running.

“Water is a main resource. Especially for this cafe. If you don’t have water, we are not able to serve the customers. And eventually, the whole business and the whole community would be suffering from a lot of things. And especially in this area, this region is actually a busy time for all the offices and stuff. So, all our businesses are actually relying on us for the coffee or even, the other businesses.”

The water outage days are August 20 and 27. And the road closures are between Vancouver Street and Victoria Street and then half a block between Victoria Street and Brunswick Street.
