PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Cougars celebrated their 30th anniversary season opener with a stunning 9-0 win against the Tri-City Americans yesterday (Sept 22).

Zac Funk and Viliam Kmec achieved their first career hat-tricks in the WHL. There were also goals from Ondrej Becher and Terik Parascak, with Terik scoring his first WHL goal at 1:28, assisted by Zac Funk, and then a shorthanded breakaway at 3:54.

The 16-year-old goaltender from North Vancouver, Joshua Ravensbergen, performed well with steady goaltending. He says, “That was a lot of fun out there. That is going to be something I will remember for a while. Playing in the WHL is something I’ve wanted my whole life, and to play in front of that many people was pretty exciting.”

Both teams will face each other again tonight (Sept 23) at 6 p.m. in Prince George.
