Respiratory illnesses on the rise at UHNBC
PRINCE GEORGE – Yesterday, noting hospital visits by people with respiratory illness, be it COVID or influenza, are starting to show increases in hospitals across the province, including the University Hospital of Northern B.C.
“Yeah, we’re absolutely seeing an increase in respiratory illness right now, and which isn’t a surprise because it is the start of respiratory illness season,” says Dr. Rakel Kling, Medical Health Officer. “So we’re definitely seeing that in our in our acute care as well as our long-term care settings.”
But Health Critic Shirley Bond says while a mask mandate may help in places like theUniversity Hospital of Northern B.C., where the number of patients arriving is on the rise exponentially, there’s a bigger issue to tackle.
