PRINCE GEORGE— It was an exciting Thanksgiving weekend for Spruce Kings Kai Greaves (’03) who announced his commitment to the University of Princeton.

Via Instagram, the 20-year-old defense-man announced his decision to take his game to the next level with the Princeton Tigers.

“It’s a school where not only do you get a lot from the hockey side but also the education side of it, which is super important to me,”

The University of Princeton is an Ivy league school based in Princeton, New Jersey. The Tigers men’s hockey program has a rich history playing in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) as an NCAA division one program.

The Princeton Tigers were crowned ECAC champions in 2018. Last year, the Tigers finished with a record 8-14.

“We are very proud of Kai. He and his family are very deserving of this achievement,” said Alex Evin, head coach of the Prince George Spruce Kings. “He has put in a ton of work this summer, and we are hoping that he keeps developing and has a great final season before attending Princeton next fall.”

Kia Greaves is in his second season with the Spruce Kings, after being acquired from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at the start of the 2022-23 season. In his first year with the Spruce Kings, Greaves scored 27 points in 54 games.

While the 2023-24 season is still young, he has been a top defender for Spruce Kings, operating on the top pairing for all three games this season.
