PRINCE GEORGE – The Spruce Kings were defeated by the Penticton Vees last night. This becomes their second loss this week after falling to Merritt on Tuesday 6-3.

The Vees and the Spruce Kings traded power-play opportunities in the first period, but neither team capitalized on them. The first period ended 0-0.

The first five minutes of the second period held a different outcome though. The Vees’, James Fisher (’04), scored his first of three goals. The Spruce Kings’, Scott Cousins (’04), followed that up with a goal to tie the game.

Prince George hasn’t been a stranger to the penalty box this year, and it cost them last night. James Fisher scored his second while on the power-play 11 minutes into the second. The period ended 3-1 after the Vees scored another goal with three minutes left.

Spruce Kings head coach, Alex Evin, pulled starting goalie, Marcus Ouellet (’04), replacing him with Ryan Sanborn (’05) to start the third period.

Prince George had a good start to the final frame. Max Ranstrom (’04) got the Spruce Kings within a goal, scoring on the power-play, but that was later followed by James Fisher’s final goal of the night completing his hat-trick. The Vees put the final dagger in with a late goal in the third.

The final score was 5-2. The Spruce Kings complete their road trip tomorrow night against West Kelowna at 7 p.m.
