Prince George Symphony Orchestra kicking off new season in unique fashion

PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Symphony Orchestra (PGSO) has been a community staple for more than 50 years, and it’s preparing to kick off another season on October 14.

The season will begin in special fashion, as it will be a candlelight chamber music performance; the first time the PSGO has ever done a candlelight performance.

“Chamber music, it’s all about intimacy. It was written to be consumed by a small group of people in a small room played by a small number of musicians, and it’s just a wonderful occasion,” said PGSO Executive Director Ken Hall.

Hall explained the intimacy is a big part of the performance, but it’s also a social event

“We want it to feel like no stress, you don’t have to have ever been to a concert to enjoy this, You just sit around, have some snacks, have a drink, and there’s music playing,” Hall said.

The PGSO is one of several large arts organizations in Prince George, and Hall believes the PGSO, along with other groups like Theatre Northwest and many others, play a huge role in helping our fine arts scene flourish.

“It’s just so important. We see it at our events, there’s a real sense of community and a real sense of pride that this city can support these amazing organizations,” Hall said.

Whether it’s helping our children find new hobbies or a new avenue of self-expression, or helping Prince George continue to grow by attracting and retaining talented artists, the arts can make a huge difference in our community.

The upcoming chamber music performance is the first of many shows the PGSO will host, and you can learn more about the upcoming year on its website PGSO.com.
