PRINCE GEORGE — The provincial government has announced that it is going be strengthening wood product manufacturers through value-added manufacturing.

Back in March, Minister of Jobs Brenda Bailey announced that the government was making important investments in the forestry industry, to prevent boom-bust cycles.

In a statement the minister said that “by investing in innovation, we’re getting more value from the wood harvested in B.C., while creating and preserving high-quality jobs in the forestry sector.”

The Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation announced that they will be supporting manufacturers to upgrade their operations, sustain jobs in rural communities and plan for growth, bolstering value-added manufacturing. However, only four manufacturers will be getting support from this announcement. John Brink, owner of Brink Forest Products has been a proponent of value-added manufacturing ever since he got into the business.

“The more value we add social and economic to that for making products for the rest of the world, the better it is for B.C., for the province of British Columbia, for the communities, and in particular Northern B.C.” – John Brink, Owner of Brink Forest Products Ltd.

Value-added manufacturers make wood products such as mass timber, furniture, plywood, log homes and more. The province says that value-added wood products are less carbon intensive than steel and concrete, supporting the Province’s CleanBC goals and the continued shift to a clean economy.
