PRINCE GEORGE — BC United Party Leader Kevin Falcon was in Prince George Friday at Northern Lights Estate Winery for a pair of announcements.

The first was to announce that Prince George-Valemount MLA and Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes will both be seeking re-election next year. Falcon was also joined by Prince George-Mackenzie candidate Kiel Giddens and Nechako-Lakes candidate Shane Brienen.

Falcon also unveiled his party’s ‘Northern Transportation Strategy’ which focuses on infrastructure needs in the north – including expanding the Cariboo Connector Program, building more rest stops, enhancing safety and efficiency on key highways, focusing on long-term infrastructure safety and resiliency and fast tracking a new Taylor Bridge for the Peace region.

He said the expansion of the Cariboo Connector Program would start with the construction of the next two 4-lane projects in the corridor between Cache Creek and Prince George while the increase in amenities on highways means the construction of a minimum of two new full amenities rest stops across northern B.C.

The focus on long-term infrastructure safety would include a comprehensive review of rural roads that require paving and safety improvements, median and guard rail additions, and better brushing to reduce wildlife conflicts.

“David Eby and the NDP have proven time and time again they are incapable of getting things done, and we’ve seen this with the NDP’s scrapping of the Cariboo Connector program,” said MLA for Prince George-Valemount Shirley Bond.

“Kevin Falcon has a proven track record of connecting northern British Columbia, including launching projects such as Phase 1 and 2 of the Cariboo Connector, Nisga’a Highway, Heartlands Roads, and oil and gas exploration roads – all of which have had a profound impact on the provincial economy.”
