PRINCE GEORGE – From Cambridge, Ontario to Alberni Valley, to Prince George, and now Princeton, New Jersey, Kai Greaves continues to advance his hockey career all over the map. The 6’2″ Spruce Kings defenseman has had his eye on the prize since he was little and it’s definitely paying off. He accepted an offer from Princeton University to play division-one hockey to prove it.

“This is what I’ve been working towards for a while and I feel like if you truly work your hardest at most things you’ll be able to accomplish it.”

The newly deemed Ivy League athlete has been playing hockey since he could get his feet into skates. His competitive nature developed around that time as well, playing with his brother who just happened to have the same mindset as him.

“We compete about everything.”

“We were playing hockey in the winters and baseball in the summers. When we were playing baseball, we were trying to strike each other out like we had a baseball field right behind our house. In the winters, our dad would build a rink in our backyard, so we’d race home from school, get our gear on as quickly as we could, and spend four or five hours out there every day.”

The 20-year-old is one of the more veteran players on the Spruce Kings and plays a big role on the defensive end, making his relationship with his teammates an important part of his day-to-day in and around the rink.

“Kai’s a great guy. We all love him so much. We’re both from Ontario, so we spent some time traveling here and back home last year together. So, I got to know him pretty good. And seeing him come into the rink every day, he really makes it a positive environment and kind of brings everyone up and is a fun guy to be around.”

Kai is hoping to officially take to the ice with Princeton next fall.
