PRINCE GEORGE —Update: RCMP have released more details regarding this morning’s ‘hold and secure’ at Buckhorn Elementary.

Prince George RCMP say the measure was in place due to an investigation they were conducting at a nearby home. Police had launched an assault investigation prompting them to execute a search warrant on the 5300 block of Buckhorn Lake Road. The suspect is known to police for other violent criminal offenses and investigators determined that they would also utilize the North District Emergency Response Team to help ensure public and police safety.

The suspect was arrested without incident and the hold and secure protocol was lifted at 12:15 Monday afternoon.

Earlier: School District 57 says the hold and secure has been lifted and that students and staff are safe and sound. No further details have been released.

Earlier: A police presence outside of Buckhorn Elementary this hour.

This after the school was placed under ‘hold and secure’ protocol. In a statement released on the school’s website, administrators say this means the school is locked, and students will stay inside and no one is is allowed in or out of the building.

RCMP say the hold and secure is in place due to an investigation they’re conducting a short distance away from the school.

Cpl. Jennifer Cooper can’t say how long the investigation will take but notes the students are not in any danger.

Police are asking parents to stay away from the school because it creates an unsafe situation.

We’ll update this story as soon as more information is released.
