Difficulties in booking vaccine appointments for Influenza and COVID-19

PRINCE GEORGE — We are in the midst of the cold and flu season which means that folks are rolling up their sleeves to get their flu and covid shots, but it has not all been smooth sailing so far.

Karen Muir wanted to book flu and Covid shots for herself and her daughters, but experienced some difficulties.

In years past, including last year, Karen had been able to get her shots in the same appointment as her children, but this year it was not to be. And for a parent with two young children, it can be hard to juggle your schedule around.

Despite some difficulties, back in October, B.C.’s Minister of Health expected this year to be a good year for vaccine uptake.

“I expect us to have a very good year. And we just got to we just got to do the work. More than 1200 pharmacies are also able and in a position to deliver COVID vaccine. That wasn’t true at the beginning of the pandemic. So we’re making it easier to get the vaccines.”

The Minister of Health says that the booking system does work well, and encourages those that have problems to let the ministry know.

“We had a booking system for influenza vaccines last year that was the most successful year in history. If it’s a problem for people, we certainly like to hear about it because we are making it possible for people to get vaccinated.” – Adrian Dix, B.C. Minister of Health
