PRINCE GEORGE—Retired Architect and notable documentarian of the region’s history, Trelle Morrow, will be awarded Prince George’s Freedom of the City at the upcoming Council meeting on November 20, 2023. The Freedom of the City is the highest honour a municipality can bestow upon a distinguished person or unit of the Canadian Armed Forces (or another nation).

City council is giving the award to Morrow for his contributions to the community over the last several decades. Morrow’s architectural career spanned 40 years designing notable landmarks like the former Prince George Citizen building on Brunswick Street and Sacred Heart Cathedral. He was a long-serving member of the City of Prince George’s Heritage Commission, serving from 2015-2021.Additionally, Morrow is a four-time winner of the Jeanne Clarke Local History Award.

The Community Charter allows council to grant the award to a deserving recipient. The Freedom of the City policy also provides those who win the award with free parking in City lots parkades and spaces controlled by a parking meter, invitations to special City Council functions like volunteer appreciation dinners and inaugural Council meeting, and a photograph of the recipient engraved with their name and status to be displayed in a prominent location at City Hall.

The Freedom of the City is a designation that is only awarded with Council’s full support and is reflective of exceptional merit and public contribution.
