A victory and a loss for the UNBC Timberwolves basketball teams

KELOWNA — The UNBC Timberwolves men’s and women’s basketball teams travelled to Kelowna this weekend to face the UBC Okanagan Heat on Saturday (Dec. 2).

The men’s team ended 2023 on a positive note, securing a close 77-72 victory over UBCO.

Chris Ross led the Timberwolves offensively and defensively, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds. His six successful threes, three assists and one steal made him the Earls Road Warrior of the Game.

Evgeny Baukin tallied 17 points, followed by Justin Sunga with 10 points.

On the other hand, the women’s team couldn’t secure a victory, falling to UBCO 82-46.

Rebecca Landry and Sveta Boykova tallied 14 points each, with Boykova winning 12 rebounds and earning the Earls Road Warrior of the Game award.

Both teams will now enter their holiday break and will be back in action facing the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday, January 5, 2024.
