One hundred hampers for one hundred families

Dec 4, 2023 | 3:10 PM

PRINCE GEORGE — One hundred hampers for one hundred families. Ron Brent Elementary School is hoping to raise over $16,000 to purchase and then distribute food hampers to support families in need, over the two week Christmas break.

During the school year, students receive a hot breakfast, a hot lunch, and if needed can take food home. This particular program is funded by SD57 specifically for schools that have a high population of families in need.

“We want to recognize that we are sometimes feeding kids twice a day. And while they’re away for two weeks, we want to be able to offer that support as well and keep it going while kids are at home.” – Kelsey McWhinnie, Acting Principal, Ron Brent Elementary

With the success of growing the program, acting principal Kelsey McWhinnie, says that behind the success is every single person at Ron Brent.

“I would say it’s every single person in this building puts their heart and soul into this work. They come in every single day, and this is just kind of an add on to what we’re doing already. I have to say, the staff in this building is like something like a group of people I’ve never worked with before. They’re incredible.” – Kelsey McWhinnie, Acting Principal, Ron Brent Elementary

Donations can be sent to etransfer@sd57.bc.ca with a note for Ron Brent hamper project or cheque payable to “Ron Brent Elementary School” re: 100 hampers for 100 families.
