Results of the City Civic Core survey released

PRINCE GEORGE—The City has released the results of the City Civic Core District Plan project survey showing that multi-zoned developments and recreational spaces are top of mind for residents.

The Plan is a guide that will define the long-term vision for the municipal properties in the downtown core. Community engagment launched in August and ran through September offering a number of community engagement opportunities. These included community round table sessions, pop-up events at markets and an online community survey.

The plan covers an area of space between the Canfor Leisure Pool, down to City hall and up to the Library as these properties are municipal owned and operated. The goals of the project is to:

  • Strengthen the local economy
  • Enhance the vibrancy of downtown
  • Provide amenities to enhance the quality of life of Prince George citizens

Over 50 percent of respondents have indicated a need for shops and cafes with housing, while just under half are requesting a performing arts centre in the area. The next big infrastructure request is replacing the ice arena.

Respondents also requested several short-term,temporary, low-cost uses to improve the area in the interim such as benches, public art, bike racks, free wi-fi, indoor recreation, removal of three hour parking restrictions business incentives and more.

On Monday, city council will meet to discuss the findings and decide on what course of action the city will take.
