Prince George Spruce Kings fall 8-7 to the Trail Smoke Eaters

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings fell 8-7 to the Trail Smoke Eaters in a tight high-scoring game at the Kopar Memorial Arena on Friday (Dec. 15).

The goals started early on in the first period, with Owen Goodbrand scoring the first for the Spruce Kings, followed by a power play goal from Kai Greaves, clinching a 2-1 partial victory by the end of the first.

The game would really open up early in the second period, with each team scoring three goals by the end. Linden Makow, Kilian McGregor-Bennett and Skogen Schrott all tallied one goal during the period for Prince George, managing to stay ahead by 5-4.

The Smoke Eaters would step on the gas in the third period, taking control of the game by scoring four goals and completing their comeback. The Spruce Kings lagged behind in the third, with only two goals from previous scorers Kai Greaves and Skogen Schrott.

Mathieu Cobetto-Roy was the star of the game for the Smoke Eaters with two goals.

Prince George goalie, Charlie Zolin, made 21 saves of 28 shots on net, with substitute goaltender, Ryan Sanborn, making three saves of four shots on goal. Trail goalie, Ryan Parker, made 41 saves of 48 shots on net.

Next, the Prince George Spruce Kings face the Trail Smoke Eaters for the second time at the Kopar Memorial Arena tonight (Dec. 16) at 6:00 p.m.
