Santa spreads holiday cheer at the UHNBC pediatric ward

PRINCE GEORGE – Christmas came early for the pediatric centre at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC), as Santa Claus left the North Pole early to visit the children there and deliver presents and holiday cheer. While it’s a long trip from the North Pole and several days before Christmas, Santa said it’s all worth it to see the smiles on the kids’ faces.

“The main reason for my visit to the children here this time of year is to let them know: if they’re going to be in the hospital on Christmas Eve, Santa knows where they are, so there will be gifts for the children here on Christmas morning when they wake up,” Santa said.

Benjamin Courtoreille’s soon to be four-year-old son Grayson is currently in the pediatric ward, and Benjamin says the visit from Santa means everything to Grayson and his family during a difficult time.

It means the world to me, especially since we’ve been in the hospital for five days, six days now. So it’s been stressful, it’s been stressful for mom and dad and all our family back home, too. So for Santa to come here and give a big present, it’s awesome,” Benjamin said.

For Santa, he says this is what Christmas is all about.

“It’s special, especially receiving any Christmas present before Christmas, it’s always really nice. And the children, of course, are very appreciative. I was really pleased and happy to bring a little smile to the children’s faces while they’re here in the hospital,” Santa said.

While being in the hospital is the last place children want to be, the holiday cheer Santa brought can help everyone enjoy a bit of Christmas.
