Multiple outages knocks out power for thousands of Prince George residents

PRINCE GEORGE —Update: 12:50 p.m.: There are now 1,510 customers without power. Check BC Hydro for updates.

Update (11:25 a.m.): According to BC Hydro, 2272 BC Hydro customers remain without power this hour. Those areas without power include the Chief Lake Road area, Cranbrook Hill Road area, the area south of 1st Avenue, east of Burden Street, west of Brunswick Street and north of 17th Avenue. Also, west of Foothills Boulevard and south of Otway Road. For a full listing, go to bchydro.com.

Earlier: Thousands of Prince George residents are waking up without power Tuesday (Jan. 30) morning.

BC Hydro is reporting multiple outages within the City of Prince George’s limits that knocked out power between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m., including:

  • Downtown – 2,767 customers affected over five outages – with a tree down across wires affecting 1,737
  • North Nechako – 1,377 customers affected – tree down across wires
  • Hart Highlands – 1,100 customers affected over five outages – with a downed pole affecting 1,042 customers
  • West of Heritage – 200 customers affected – under investigation
  • Shady Valley – 195 customers affected – under investigation
  • Northwest of Beaver Forest Road – 86 customers affected – tree down across wires

BC Hydro says crews have been assigned to each outage. As of publication, there is no estimated time for power to be restored.
