5 new additions to the PG Sports Hall of Fame

PRINCE GEORGE—The Prince George Sports Hall of Fame has inducted three athletes and two coaches. Those athletes are Amanda Asay in baseball, Kenny Lally for his boxing, and Megan Tandy for biathlons. For the Coaches/ Builder category Joe Rea was inducted for Wheelchair Curling and Edna Stitt for Baseball, Softball and Hockey.

Amanda Asay began her career at 17-years-old when she joined the Canadian women’s national baseball team. Asay led Canada to two silver and three bronze medals at the Women’s Baseball World Cup, a historic silver medal at the Pan America Games, and was the only Canadian named to the World Cup All-Star team in 2006.

Kenny Lally made history at the 2010 Continental Championships in Ecuador, where he became the third Canadian boxer to defeat a Cuban competitor and win a silver medal. Lally has recently reopened the Inner City Boxing gym with Jag Seehra to train the next generation of boxers.

Megan Tandy has competed in the Olympics three times for biathlon after getting into the sport through the Caledonia Nordic Ski Centre. In the Vancouver 2010 Olympics she competed in the 15 km individual, the 10 km pursuit, and the relay competitions. She competed again in 2014 Sochi Olympics competing in the 7.5 km sprint as well. Her last Olympic performance was in PyeongChang where she competed in the 7.5 km Sprint.

Joe Rea began coaching wheelchair curling in 2006 after being Canada’s team leader in the 2005 world championships. In 2006 the sport was debuted at the Paralympic Games where coached the Canadian team to gold in Torino. He Rea continued to coach leading Canada to two more Paralympic gold medals in 2010 and 2014 as well as three world Championship medals in 2009, 2011 and 2010.

Edna Stint has volunteered her time with the local teams in Prince George including helping as a scorekeeper or with penalty boxes for the PG Spruce Kings.

The banquet this year will be held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel on Saturday, April 6, 2024. More details will be released within the next month. On the same evening the Prince George Sports Hall of Fame and it’s Board of Directors will be recognizing a number of young athletes in The Rising Star Category.

The Prince George Sports Hall of Fame now has 83 alumni.
