PRINCE GEORGE — What a way to cap the season for UNBC Timberwolve basketball player Justin Sunga.

The second-year guard from Burnaby has been named Canada West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Sunga played a huge role in the team’s success last week in Winnipeg, which culminated in a bronze medal.

Sunga averaged 13 points-per-game while averaging nine assists over the four contests, including ten assists in a double-double against host Manitoba on Thursday night. He committed just six turnovers throughout the championship while playing an average of 35.5 minutes per game.

During the regular season, Sunga averaged 10.2 points-per-game, but made an even larger impact distributing the ball. His 5.3 assists per game ranked him third in the Canada West conference.

Sunga becomes the first UNBC Timberwolves student athlete to receive a Canada West Player of the Week award since Michael Henman (Men’s Soccer) did so in September, 2023.
