RCMP – Be careful with short-term rentals
PRINCE GEORGE — As the legislation around short-term rentals in B.C. is set to change this spring, Prince George RCMP is urging those who will continue to have short-term rentals to exercise caution when accepting clients.
Mounties say they’ve had instances over the last six to eight months where landlords have found their clients to be involved in gang activity, adding it’s difficult to evict those types of people once they are already in the home and either stay past their contract date or are found to be in violation on the rental terms.
Tips include doing an internet search to check to see if they have a record and being wary of people wanting to pay for one or more months up front, especially those wanting to pay cash.
