Prince George Public Library expands their digital footprint with Chromebook lending

Feb 29, 2024 | 1:02 PM

PRINCE GEORGE—”Those without access to online devices are often left behind in our increasingly online world,” says Chris Field, manager of collections and technology.

In efforts to make the digital space more inclusive, the Prince George Public Library will now allow card holders to borrow Chromebook laptops. With eight available in the Bob Harkins Branch and two at the Nechako Branch the library will allow patrons to borrow the Chromebooks for one week at a time.

Field continues: “Making Chromebooks freely available to borrow levels the playing field so that all members of our community can meet their education, recreation, and information needs.”

The lightweight laptops provide a straight forward solution to people needing to perform online tasks such completing school assignment, attending online lectures or meetings, and update their resumes.

You can request a Chromebook at any library service desk or place a hold via their website pgpl.ca.

A library card is needed to borrow a laptop. Library cards are free for all Prince George residents and most members of the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. You can apply online or in person with an ID card that contains your current address.

When using a public computer the Province of B.C. advises not to enter any personal information. For a fill list of safety tips click here.
