PRINCE GEORGE — It was an exciting moment for Zac Funk to begin the month of March as the forward announced he signed a three-year NHL entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals.

Funk has put together one of the most remarkable single seasons in Prince George Cougars’ history. So far this year the 20-year-old forward has broken the Cougar’s single-season goal record amassing 59 goals, in 60 games. Good for first in the entire CHL. As a result, NHL teams have been in contact with Funk all year before he finally made his decision to sign with the Caps.

For Head Coach and GM Mark Lamb, it was no surprise Funk has taken the next step in his hockey career as he has impressed ever since the Cougars traded for the forward back at last year’s trade deadline.
