PRINCE GEORGE—It has been five months since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas war and as it continues more civilians have been displaced. To provide relief to those displaced during the war 2Rivers4Palestine and multiple UNBC student clubs held an Irish Pub Night raising $2,000 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

The event involved an irish jig workshop, karaoke, and a letter writing campaign with the goal to raise awareness among local MPs.

UNRWA is one of the only organizations that can reach directly reach Palestinians in Gaza. Ottawa had paused funding because UNRWA staff were allegedly involved in the October 7, terrorist attack. However the funding was resumed on March 8, 2024 before the letters were sent to the MPs.

“Canada is resuming its funding to UNRWA so more can be done to respond to the urgent needs of Palestinian civilians,” Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development.

2Rivers4Palestine say that they were honoured and grateful to receive so much support from the UNBC clubs. They want to thank everyone who made the evening possible.
