PRINCE GEORGE— Meet Rutabaga, also known as Ruty, she is a 4 year old Shitzu cross who is on a weight loss journey before she can find her ‘furever’ home. While she isn’t available to adopt yet that doesn’t mean you can’t foster Ruty until she’s ready for surgery

“Rutabaga needs to lose a few pounds before her spay surgery,” explains Sharayah Haizimsque, an animal care attendant at the North Cariboo BC SPCA.”We can’t adopt out animals who haven’t been spayed or neutered. So for that, we have people who are intending to adopt. So, they foster until their adoption day.”

Rutabaga is a calm, friendly dog who loves to sit on someones lap as much as she loves to sit in her bed. To help with the weight loss the SPCA encourages making sure that in between naps she gets plenty of exercise as well as keep to her special diet.

If you would like to foster you can apply on the BC SPCA website. Once Rutabaga is out of the surgical ward she’ll be ready to adopt.
