Omineca Arts Centre looking to feature local emerging artists

PRINCE GEORGE – The Omineca Arts Centre is preparing to feature emerging local artists in its annual “Unfold 4” group exhibition, and is currently accepting submissions to be in the exhibit.

“If you are an artist and you never had an exhibition just for yourself and you don’t have a full collection and you really want to be part of an exhibition, we really want to show your work,” said Omineca’s Arts Coordinator Fernanda Salla.

The exhibit will be open in July, but submissions must be in by June 1. It’s asked that you submit two or three pieces.

“We know that we have amazing local artists here, but sometimes people keep doing their art and they don’t know how to put themselves out there. So we are looking for all kinds of art, not just visual art. So if you’re a musician and you are a performer or you have a way to express yourself and you don’t know how to put yourself out there, you can just come here to Omineca,” Salla said.

Omineca’s space has been used for a wide variety of events and exhibits in the past, so regardless of what form your art takes Salla says there will be a way to properly feature your work. Beyond the benefit of getting your art out in a public space, Salla added putting the exhibit together is a great opportunity to learn more and get involved in the arts community.

“The process of making art is an art by itself, it’s not the end product. So that’s something that can be explored during the exhibition, so being here in this environment is important for the arts, too. Sometimes it’s important to be around other artists and not just making art in your home by yourself,” Salla said.

If you’d like to learn more you can visit the Omineca Arts Centre’s website, or visit the Centre in person at 369 Victoria Street.
