A messy situation for soccer fans as Lionel Messi skips Vancouver Whitecaps game this weekend

PRINCE GEORGE — Disappointment for soccer fans planning to see Lionel Messi this weekend as word broke Thursday that Messi, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets will not be making the trip to Vancouver to take part in the game between the Whitecaps and Inter Miami FC. It’s something shocking to soccer fans who bought their tickets months ago to see one of the world’s best players in person.

In a statement released by the team Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster, says

“While we haven’t received an official update on the availability of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets for this weekend, we understand they will not make this trip. Unfortunately, we have no control over who plays for our opponent, and it was important for us to communicate to our fans as soon as possible”

“We always want our best players going up against our opponent’s best players, and facing players of the highest pedigree was especially exciting for our team. We know that there will also be a lot of disappointed fans. We remain committed to making this a special experience for everyone.”

The club is still planning on hosting a pre-match party and offering discounts of 50 percent on food and beverages. The Whitecaps are currently in a playoff spot. Kickoff for the game is set for 7:30.
