Prince George offers free transit for GoByBike Week

PRINCE GEORGE—GoByBike Week begins on June 3-9, an annual reminder to encourage British Columbians to ditch their cars and travel in an ecofriendly manner.

To further encourage more people to ride a bike B.C. Transit is offering free transit to all Prince George customers. By combining two forms of transportation people can travel longer distances and stay out of the rain if the weather turns sour.

To qualify for free transit, customer taking part in GoByBike Week just need to use the bus bike racks or show their bike helmet when boarding.

Most bikes can be accommodated on BC Transit buses but space is limited and cannot be guaranteed. When loading a bike on the make sure it meets the following guidelines:

  • Saddlebags, antennas, child carriers or any other items that interfere with the driver’s vision must be removed.
  • Bicycles on the bike rack must not interfere with any device on the bus (e.g. windshield wipers).
  • Bike racks on community buses can only be used during daylight hours, as bikes block the headlights. All other BC Transit buses have no time of day restrictions.
  • Folding bicycles are allowed onboard the bus if they are in a case and small enough not to obstruct the aisle.
  • Electric scooters are allowed on board if they can be folded and stored between the seats or held
  • Electric bicycles are only allowed on the bike rack when they weigh less than 25kg (55 lb.) and the battery (lithium only) is removed from the bike and brought on board the bus with the customer.
  • Electric bikes with non-lithium batteries, as well as scooter style electric bikes (moped style) are not permitted on bike racks or onboard the bus.
