PRINCE GEORGE – Many healthcare professionals have faced burnout due to their profession’s challenges. To support them in overcoming these difficulties, the College of New Caledonia has recently launched a new course called Health and Wellness for Healthcare Professionals.

Nurses frequently face life-and-death decisions and are expected to make crucial choices that can be life-threatening or life-saving for their patients.

“ Right now, nursing is at a point where it’s really short staffed, and it can be really hard. The things that you’re seeing, the things that you’re witnessing, the things that you’re the people that we’re caring for, it can be hard as a nurse to handle and deal with those things.”

Shelby Montgomery

CNC, Nursing Instructor

When developing the course, we acknowledged that individuals entering the profession may not always be fully acquainted with its complexity.

“One of the things I’ve learned from nursing is that the people that you get to work with are absolutely amazing. And so a course like this just helps build those connections between the students as they’re going through their education.”

Shelby Montgomery

CNC, Nursing Instructor

The course, which will commence this autumn, aims to provide comprehensive education on health and well-being throughout their professions.

WorkBC states that registered and psychiatric nurses are in high demand. Between 2023 and 2033, there are projected to be over 24,000 job openings, the highest among all care occupations.
