PRINCE GEORGE — At the House of Ancestors on Tuesday, the Lheidli T’enneh unveiled their clan symbols. The first nation has five clans: Frog, Caribou, Grouse, Bear and Beaver. Councillor Crystal Gibbs with the Lheidli T’enneh was behind this project and it has been in the works for a while.

“I had the idea and of course with a project of this magnitude, I did consultation with our Elders and our knowledge holders, I met with them a couple times, and I applied for the funding approximately a year-and-a-half ago, so it’s been a long journey.” – Councillor Crystal Gibbs, Lheidli T’enneh First Nation

The clan symbols have never been publicly displayed before and Gibbs says that the project is will be huge for familial connections.

“We went from a membership of 400 people to almost 900. So a lot of people have just come back home and are now finding out where they’re from. I think it;s huge with the connections of their family ties.” Gibbs explained.
