WILDFIRE UPDATE

Small wildfire found burning north of Prince George

Jul 20, 2024 | 9:07 AM

The BC Wildfire Service on Friday (July 19) discovered a .5 hectare fire burning about 30 kilometres north of Prince George on the south shore of Salmon River.

Lightning is the suspected cause of the fire, which is listed as out of control on the BCWS website.

A Canadian Press report notes the number of wildfires burning in B.C. has exploded in recent days, with more heat and thunderstorms on the way.

BCWS says weeks of hot, record-breaking temperatures and dry conditions continue to contribute to an increase in fire behaviour and growth.
