Firefighters douse wildfire near UNBC campus
PRINCE GEORGE — Prince George Fire Rescue with the help of the BC Wildfire Service doused a vehicle fire near the UNBC campus Sunday night (July 21).
The City says the fire was discovered in a difficult-to-access area at 6:30 p.m. and say the vehicle was abandoned.
“Crews used both Prince George Fire Rescue and B.C. Wildfire Service trucks to bring additional water, staff, and equipment to the scene using a dirt access road. Ground crews in direct radio contact with the B.C. Wildfire Service aircraft were able to coordinate their efforts, extinguishing the fire before it was able to spread into the surrounding wooded area,” says the City.
No one was injured and the cause is unknown at this time.The vehicle was completely destroyed in the fire and will be removed at a later date.
