One dead, two injured in Highway 16 collision

PRINCE GEORGE—On Sunday (September 15) Smither RCMP and the Highway Patrol were called to a head on collision on Highway 16 west of Raymond Road. RCMP say that an eastbound pickup truck and a westbound SUV collided at highway speeds.

The single occupant in the pickup was taken to the the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile the SUV’s driver was pronounced dead on the scene, despite efforts by first responders, and the passenger was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

“We send out deepest condolences to the families of those involved and have engaged our victim services team to support them. I would like to thank our partners BC Emergency Health Services, Smithers Fire and hospital staff for their assistance and great work during this event,” says Cpl. Kevin Weeres Smithers BCHP.

Officers suspect impairment may have been a factor in the collision but the investigation has yet to conclude. If you have dash cam footage or witnessed the crash Smithers RCMP is asking you to reach out to 250-847-3233.
