Cougars’ home opener ends in overtime defeat

PRINCE GEORGE — Owen Schoettler spoiled the party on Friday (Sept. 20) in WHL action at CN Centre, scoring in overtime to lift his Spokane Chiefs to a 4-3 victory over the Prince George Cougars.

Rasmus Ekstrom, Dane Pyatt and Cohen Harris also scored for the Chiefs (1-0), whose netminder, Cooper Michaluk, made 27 saves to pick up the win between the pipes.

Matteo Danis, Jett Lajoie and Ephram McNutt scored for the Cougars (1-0) in their home-and-season opener in support of goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen, who stopped 34 shots in a losing effort.

The rematch is slated for Saturday (Sept. 21), a 6 p.m. start at CN Centre.
